The Final Blog

Well, it is hard to believe that this class is coming to an end. I can honestly say that I have never looked so forward to going to a class, as I have this one (even on a Saturday)!

For me, returning to school later in life has been great, but also challenging. Technology has improved and progressed, curriculum and instruction has changed so much and the role of the classroom teacher is far different now than it was when I was teaching 12 years ago. I have remained in the field of education, but specialized in one to one instruction in a home-based environment. Now that I am working with the school districts again, and taking this class, my eyes are wide open to all that has changed and how much I have to learn. I feel confident that I have much to share with others and now that I have taken this class, feel more equipped on how to go about doing it!

I really enjoyed the format of this class. The book was fabulous and I will continue to refer to its contents. I blogged often about a challenging situation I have had this fall, and in hindsight believe that it could not have occurred at a better time. If I was not taking this course and did not have access to this book, I’m not sure that it would have ended with success, as it did. I was fortunate to develop a positive relationship with the classroom teacher and recommended our text book to her. She purchased it, and is eager to begin implementing strategies!

Each week, I looked forward to hearing stories from my fellow classmates and how the strategies discussed in classed could be or were implemented in their daily work. I left each class with a new perspective on how to become an effective teacher leader. In addition, I learned how the strategies of becoming a teacher leader were not limited to the classroom or educational setting. Implementing these strategies into my personal life as my husband and I raise our three teen-age children has been loads of fun!

This class has really inspired me to become a more effective leader in the educational setting, as well as in other aspects of my life. I have had to overcome many things in my life and feel truly blessed to have the opportunity to give back. If I can become a person that can effectively impact student success, teacher success and the success of those around me, I will have achieved my goal.

Mr. Varguez, your students are so lucky to have you as their teacher, but the teachers that you influence everyday are truly the lucky ones. I have learned so much from your stories and perspectives on leadership in the educational setting. You are truly an inspiration to me.

Martine, Sabrina, Heather, Laura, and Sarah, thanks for your knowledge, insights, life stories and compassion. I look so forward to learning so much more from all of you as we continue on this journey of higher education!

I too enjoyed the class and looked forward to my free therapy every week! If it weren’t for the class and everyone in it, I would be stuck with a negative attitude for the school year. I loved the idea of presenting leadership books to each other. I am an avid reader, yet I would not have the time to read all of the great books at once to make changes in my attitude and life.
